Getting There
Now that the King’s “Vision 2010” plans are gathering pace, Morocco’s airports are benefiting from the Open Skies policy. Regular flights now arrive from the UK to FEZ, Casablanca, Marrakech and Tangier.
Via Tangier
The nearest of these is Tangier, roughly 2 hours, 45 minutes from the UK. From Tangier we take the inland road to Tetouan, journey time approximately 1 hour. Work is currently underway on a new road between the two towns, this is expected to be ready later this year. It is expected that this will reduce the journey time to 30 minutes. From Tetouan we head northwest, reaching Cabo Negro around 10 minutes later.
Via Malaga/Gibraltar
As an alternative, it is possible to get to the area via Malaga
(Spain) or Gibraltar. The advantages of this method are
regularity and price of flights. From Spain, a short ferry
journey of approx 30 minutes will get you to Ceuta – a
Spanish enclave on the coast of Morocco.
Journey time, by car, is approximately 40 minutes to Cabo
Negro, allowing for the border crossing. There is also a
regular helicopter service connecting Malaga and Ceuta.
Via Tetouan
The airport at Tetouan is currently receiving regular domestic
flights, usually from Casablanca or Marrakech. In the summer
months there are large charter fllights to
Paris. This is clearly demonstrates the capacity of the airport. MCDonald’s have recently opened a new restaurant at
Tetouan airport, so we expect big things. There is presently
no indication of how long it will take UK airlines to begin
operating out of Tetouan, especially since Tangier is shortly
to be only 30 minutes drive away. However, the potential of
Tetouan airport makes the region perfect for foreign investment
– getting in before the airlines ensures a large jump in
capital growth when they do arrive
